HJWAVE releases D-Band (140GHz) antennas for next-generation autonomous driving radar and 6G mobile communication

Millimeter-wave (30~300GHz) RF specialist company HJWAVE (CEO YOO Tae-Hwan) announced on the 13th that it has developed a 140GHz antenna applicable to future autonomous driving radar and next-generation 6G mobile communication, the first of its kind in Korea.

An official from HJWAVE explained, “The frequency currently used in autonomous driving radar is 76~81GHz (5GHz bandwidth). However, to meet the performance requirements of high-resolution radar supporting future autonomous driving, there is demand for antennas at 140GHz with a 10GHz wide bandwidth in Europe. In line with this trend in the market, we have become the first in Korea to release this product.”

CEO YOO Tae-Hwan stated, “This product, corresponding to D-Band (110~170GHz), has applied considerations for sensitivity to tolerances and loss reduction technology in the design and manufacturing stages compared to conventional technologies. We anticipate synergy through advanced technology and collaboration with domestic and foreign companies to leap forward as a leading company in the terahertz (100GHz10THz) market.”

He continued, “Not satisfied with the achievements of successful fundraising, establishing manufacturing lines, laying the foundation for global expansion, and surpassing 10 billion KRW in revenue this year, we plan to achieve stable revenue and profit structure in 2024. Additionally, we aim to establish millimeter-wave manufacturing lines and SMT lines, enter the Asia-Pacific market led by Japan, and expand into diverse industries, including the defense industry. Simultaneously, we plan to integrate antenna technology into diverse components such as radomes and PCBs.”

HJWAVE has launched two types of phase arrays and 3D antennas exclusively for imaging radar

The new products utilize a cascading structure with four chips to implement Tx16*Rx16, a total of 256 elements. The first method, a PCB Phase Array structure, incorporates an EBG (Electromagnetic Band Gap) structure to eliminate the channel deviation and ripple that are typical shortcomings of conventional methods. The second method, the WGIM (Waveguide Injection Molded) 3D antenna structure, consists of three layers and improves channel deviation by 40% and ripple by 20% compared to the improved PCB Phase Array method.
