HJWAVE Receives the ‘Minister of Science and ICT Award’ at the Radio Broadcasting Technology Awards

 ‘Autonomous Driving Radar Antenna Technology Wins Radio Broadcasting Technology Award’



“HJWAVE, a specialized company in millimeter-wave (mmWave) RF technology, announced that it received the Minister of Science and ICT Award at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Radio Broadcasting Technology Promotion Week.

The 24th Radio Broadcasting Technology Awards, organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and hosted by the RAPA (Korea Radio Promotion Association), annually recognizes outstanding technologies and products in the field of radio broadcasting technology. HJWAVE was honored with the Minister of Science and ICT Award for its autonomous driving radar antenna technology.

CEO Yoo Tae-hwan stated, “The waveguide antenna technology that won the award this time is a technology that encompasses 24 patented technologies. It can be applied not only to autonomous driving but also to various fields such as mobile communication, imaging radar, and civilian radar.” He added, “To achieve localization, we secured proprietary technology to avoid patent disputes and strengthen rights protection.” He further mentioned, “We had a fruitful year, securing foundational technology and expanding our business scope from components to facilities.”

An official mentioned, “This year, we attracted 8 billion won in investment through Pre-A Series, relocated our headquarters and research center to Pangyo, and are constructing a factory in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do. We plan to proceed with Series A investment until 1Q 2024 and actively expand into the global market, starting with the Asia-Pacific region, followed by North America and Europe.”

Corner radar is a type of radar installed at the corners of a vehicle. HJWAVE has launched two types of phase arrays and 3D antennas exclusively for imaging radar

The new products utilize a cascading structure with four chips to implement Tx16*Rx16, a total of 256 elements. The first method, a PCB Phase Array structure, incorporates an EBG (Electromagnetic Band Gap) structure to eliminate the channel deviation and ripple that are typical shortcomings of conventional methods. The second method, the WGIM (Waveguide Injection Molded) 3D antenna structure, consists of three layers and improves channel deviation by 40% and ripple by 20% compared to the improved PCB Phase Array method.
