HJWAVE, a millimeter-wave (mmWave, 30~300GHz) RF specialist company led by CEO YOO Tae-Hwan, announced on the 8th that they have launched a 24GHz waveguide antenna implemented on PCB.

HJWAVE has introduced a waveguide technology integrated into PCB using Copper and Via, departing from the conventional method of producing waveguide antennas solely through plating on metal or injection molding.

A representative from HJWAVE stated, “In smart city-based ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), collaborative driving between vehicles and traffic control systems is essential, requiring high detection range and wide detection area capabilities of traffic control radar. To achieve this, we have developed PCB antennas incorporating waveguide technology in the 24GHz frequency band, allowing for improvements in detection range, expansion of detection area, size reduction, and cost savings.”

HJWAVE’s CEO, YOO Tae-Hwan, added, “By implementing waveguide technology with high antenna gain characteristics into PCB internal layers, which was challenging to apply using conventional manufacturing techniques, we have expanded the component mounting area, contributing to downsizing and cost reduction of the finished product. We also plan to develop various frequencies into PCB waveguide antenna types in the future.”

He further stated, “We have completed patent applications for this technology, and we anticipate its utilization in the Ku-band (12~18GHz) and Ka-band (26.5~40GHz) frequency bands for 5G, 6G mobile communication, and low-earth orbit satellite communication. We also plan to release products applying waveguide technology to injection molded products like radomes soon.”
