HJWAVE Launches 79GHz to 5GHz Bandwidth Support Antenna

HJWAVE Co., Ltd., a specialized RF company in millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology ranging from 30GHz to 300GHz, announced on the 14th that they have launched a WGIM antenna supporting a 5GHz bandwidth in the 79GHz band, which can be used in various mobility applications.

The company plans to initially apply this product to autonomous vehicle forward and rear sensing, side detection, and imaging radar. They are currently engaged in joint development with domestic Tier1 radar manufacturers and global chipset companies in the field of autonomous driving radars.

The WGIM (Wave Guided Injection Molded) antenna technology, supporting a 5GHz bandwidth in the 79GHz band, can achieve wide bandwidth and wide-angle characteristics simultaneously, compared to conventional antenna technologies. Moreover, it overcomes the drawbacks of previous waveguide antennas such as price and weight issues, by enabling platformization through separate antenna module configuration and eliminating the use of Teflon PCB, which was previously used in high-frequency applications.

Yoo Tae-hwan, the CEO, stated, “We have proprietary solutions applying our own technology in various industrial fields, including 24GHz, 60GHz, 77GHz, 79GHz, and 120GHz.” He also mentioned, “We anticipate increased demand not only in the autonomous driving radar market but also in the civilian radar market and in the fields of mobile communication and satellite communication based on High-Speed Communications.”

Furthermore, he added, “Through the establishment and investment in infrastructure that goes beyond the millimeter-wave market into the terahertz (100GHz~10THz) market, we plan to grow as a company that supplies products to customers and markets in a timely manner.”

Meanwhile, HJWAVE is currently in progress with its first investment round, Pre-Series A, and has secured strategic investments from two companies in the system integrator (SI) sector and one financial investor (FI) company. The investment agreement is expected to be concluded by mid-January 23, with an estimated enterprise value of around 60 billion KRW (Korean Won), and will be publicly announced to the outside world.
